The 240S 4WD is the four-cylinder Vanguard with four-wheel drive, sold in Japan from 2007 to 2013. Its 2.4-litre petrol engine produces 170 PS and 224 Nm through an automatic gearbox. It is the practical all-weather choice of the range, below the V6 350S in power and above the front-drive car in grip.

STORY

The Vanguard was introduced in Japan in 2007 on the long-wheelbase version of the XA30 RAV4 platform. Where the RAV4 was sold as a compact crossover in most markets, the Vanguard gave Japanese buyers a larger body, an available third seating row and a more upmarket interior. It was offered with a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a 3.5-litre V6, with front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. Sales ended in 2016, and the nameplate has not returned since.
