The Vanguard was introduced in Japan in 2007 on the long-wheelbase version of the XA30 RAV4 platform. Where the RAV4 was sold as a compact crossover in most markets, the Vanguard gave Japanese buyers a larger body, an available third seating row and a more upmarket interior. It was offered with a 2.4-litre four-cylinder and a 3.5-litre V6, with front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. Sales ended in 2016, and the nameplate has not returned since.
A Japan-market crossover that Toyota sold from 2007 to 2016 as a longer, roomier sibling of the third-generation RAV4. It offered an optional third row of seats and a choice of four-cylinder and V6 petrol engines.
