Ardeo 2.0 3S-FSE D-4 FWD automatic Wagon

V50 · 1998–2001FWD

The Ardeo 3S-FSE D-4 was the front-drive wagon with Toyota's direct-injection 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. Sold in Japan from 1998 to 2001, it brought D-4 lean-burn technology to the Vista wagon body and sat above the 1.8-litre Ardeo. A later 1AZ-FSE engine replaced the 3S-FSE in this role.

STORY

The Vista Ardeo was the wagon version of the fourth-generation Vista, the V50, introduced in 1998 when the Vista became a Japan-only car on its own platform and separated from the Camry. Engines were the 1.8-litre 1ZZ-FE, the 2.0-litre 3S-FE with four-wheel drive, and direct-injection 2.0-litre D-4 units: first the 3S-FSE, then the 1AZ-FSE. It was sold through Toyota Vista Store dealers. The Vista line ended in 2003, when the Avensis replaced it.
