A 1940s open-wheel racer reimagined as an EV
The Prototype 9 reimagined a 1940s open-wheel grand-prix racer, its aluminium panels hand-beaten by Nissan's master Takumi craftsmen. Beneath the retro bodywork sat Infiniti's first EV powertrain: a 30 kWh battery feeding a prototype electric motor producing 120 kW (148 hp) and 320 Nm, driving the rear wheels through a single-speed transmission. It reached 62 mph in 5.5 seconds and topped out at 105 mph, riding on 19-inch wire-spoke wheels with period cross-ply tires.
