The Story

Why the Civic Ferio matters

Ferio was the Japanese name for the four-door Civic sedan, introduced in September 1991 with the fifth-generation Civic. It was sold through Honda's Verno dealer channel as a separate model from the hatchback Civic. The first generation (EG7/EG8/EG9/EH1/EJ3) offered 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 litre engines, including the 170 PS B16A in the SiR, plus a real-time four-wheel-drive option. The second generation arrived in September 1995 on the sixth-generation Civic. The third generation followed in September 2000 with 1.5 and 1.7 litre engines and CVT, four-speed automatic and five-speed manual gearboxes. The Ferio name ended in 2005, and the sedan carried only the Civic name afterwards. Across the three generations the grade names changed, from EL, ML, VTi and SiR early on to B, C, RS and X at the end.
