The Corona Premio is a front-drive four-door sedan that Toyota sold in Japan from 1996 to 2001. Engines ran from a 1.8-litre petrol four to a 2.0-litre D-4 direct-injection unit, with a 2.2-litre turbo diesel as an alternative.

The Story

Why the Corona Premio matters

The Corona Premio arrived in Japan in January 1996 as the T210 generation, a conventional mid-size front-drive sedan. Engines included the 1.8-litre 7A-FE, the 2.0-litre 3S-FE and the 3S-FSE with D-4 direct injection, plus a diesel line that moved to a 2.2-litre 3C-TE. Production under the Corona Premio name ended in December 2001, when it became the standalone Premio and the last model sold in Japan with the Corona name.
