BMW GINA Light Visionary Model (2008)
Concept car · 2008 · Combustion

A shape-shifting sports car dressed in fabric skin.
GINA -- 'Geometry and Functions In 'N' Adaptions' -- was Chris Bangle's radical study in flexible design. Instead of steel panels, its body was a seamless, translucent polyurethane-coated Spandex skin stretched over a movable metal frame driven by electric and hydraulic actuators. The car could open eyelid-like headlight covers, split its bonnet to reach the engine, and grow a rear spoiler on demand. A running concept, it was built on a BMW Z8 chassis with a V8.
