A driveable hydrogen fuel-cell car on a skateboard chassis
The Hy-wire ("Hydrogen drive-by-wire") was a running hydrogen fuel-cell concept revealed in 2002, developed from GM's earlier AUTOnomy study. Its entire propulsion system - fuel cell, hydrogen tanks, and electric drive motor - was packaged in an 11-inch-thick flat skateboard chassis, freeing the cabin of pedals and a steering column. All controls were fully drive-by-wire, hinting at a future of interchangeable body modules on a common platform.
