The Saturday Club's V12 four-wheel-drive dream
Developed off-hours by a volunteer group of Jaguar engineers known as 'The Saturday Club', the XJ220 concept was unveiled at the 1988 NEC Birmingham show. It promised a mid-mounted V12 with around 500 bhp and four-wheel drive, electric scissor doors and a transparent engine cover. Public and speculator demand was so intense that Jaguar green-lit production, though the road car ultimately arrived with a twin-turbo V6 and rear drive rather than the V12/4WD of the show car.
