Mazda Sassou

A youthful European B-segment design study

Designed at Mazda's European Design Centre and shown at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Sassou was a small, lightweight three-door hatchback aimed at young, first-time buyers. It tested styling and interior ideas ahead of a Mazda2 (Demio) redesign, including a USB-stick key and a morphing rear-seat system. Power came from a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder MZR DISI direct-injection gasoline engine with an idle-stop system.
