Mazda Senku

A four-seat rotary-hybrid grand tourer for adults

Presented at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, the Senku (Japanese for 'pioneer') was envisioned as a refined four-seat rotary sports car 'for adults.' It paired a next-generation direct-injection 13B two-rotor rotary engine with an electric motor, generator and battery in a front-midship rotary-hybrid layout, complete with an idle-stop function. A long wheelbase, minimal overhangs and large electric 'flying wing' sliding doors defined its clean, ornament-free shape.
