The fourth Nagare study, powered by the 16X rotary
Unveiled at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, the Taiki (Japanese for 'atmosphere') was the fourth and most sculptural entry in Mazda's Nagare design series. The long, low front-engine, rear-drive coupe chased extreme aerodynamic efficiency, with a 0.25 drag coefficient and zero lift. It served as a showcase for Mazda's next-generation 16X rotary: a twin-rotor, direct-injection Renesis-family engine of roughly 1.6 liters displacement, paired with a seven-speed twin-clutch transmission.
Key facts
- Engine: 16X next-gen twin-rotor rotary (direct injection, ~1.6L)
- Transmission: 7-speed dry twin-clutch
- Layout: Front engine, rear-wheel drive
- Drag coefficient: 0.25
- Design series: Nagare (4th study)
