Mercedes-Benz Concept EQG at IAA 2021

The electric G-Class, stronger than time.

Unveiled at IAA Mobility 2021, the Concept EQG showed that the iconic G-Class could go fully electric without losing its boxy silhouette or off-road credibility. It used four individually controlled electric motors near the wheels plus a shiftable two-speed gearbox for a low-range crawler mode, and hinted at a G-turn on-the-spot party trick. A charging-cable storage box on the tailgate replaced the traditional spare wheel. It directly previewed the production G 580 with EQ Technology.

  • Motors: 4 (one per wheel, individually controlled)
  • Gearbox: Two-speed with low-range crawler
  • Body: Electric G-Class, LED Black Panel grille
