Porsche 918 Spyder Concept (2010)
Concept car · 2010 · Hybrid

A racing-bred plug-in hybrid that promised 78 mpg and 198 mph.
Unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the 918 Spyder Concept fused a mid-mounted V8 with electric motors on both axles to preview a new kind of open-top hypercar. Its carbon-fibre monocoque, magnesium and aluminium construction kept weight under 1,490 kg, and four driving modes ranged from silent E-Drive running to a performance-focused Sport Hybrid setting. Overwhelming public response led Porsche to green-light the production 918 Spyder, which arrived in 2013.
