Toyota Baby Lunar Cruiser

An FJ40-inspired vision of interplanetary exploration

Revealed in October 2023 as part of CALTY Design Research's 50th anniversary, the Baby Lunar Cruiser blends styling cues from the classic FJ40 Land Cruiser with the capabilities of an interplanetary explorer. It is propelled by in-wheel electric motors, steered by dual joysticks and rides on airless tyres for maneuverability, with a protruding glass canopy and a panoramic augmented-reality dashboard for visibility. The concept draws inspiration from the real pressurized Lunar Cruiser rover being co-developed by Toyota and Japan's JAXA space agency.
