Mercedes-Benz Biome concept (2010)
Concept car · 2010 · Combustion

A car you grow from a seed, then compost when you're done.
Created by the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Center of North America for the 2010 LA Auto Show Design Challenge, the Biome imagined an ultralight car literally grown in a lab from seeds rather than manufactured. Its structure would develop from a material called BioFibre, drawing energy from the sun and storing it as a chemical fuel called BioNectar4534. Weighing a hypothetical 875 lb and fully compostable at the end of its life, it was a pure design-study meditation on cars as part of a living ecosystem.
