Mercedes-Benz F-Cell Roadster concept (2009)
Concept car · 2009 · Hydrogen fuel cell

A hydrogen-powered horseless carriage built by 150 apprentices.
The F-Cell Roadster was a whimsical, deliberately retro concept built by more than 150 Mercedes-Benz trainees to celebrate the company's heritage. Styled like an early horseless carriage with tall, thin-spoked wheels, carbon-fibre bucket seats and a joystick instead of a wheel, it ran a small hydrogen fuel cell driving a rear electric motor. In April 2009 it retraced Bertha Benz's historic 1888 journey along the Bertha Benz Memorial Route.
