Rinspeed Budii

Autonomous BMW i3 with a robotic-arm steering wheel

Budii reimagined the BMW i3 as an autonomous 'friend on wheels'. Its signature was a sensitive seven-axis robotic arm that handed the steering wheel to whichever front occupant wanted to drive, or parked it centrally and doubled as a table in self-driving mode. A roof-mounted telescoping laser scanner rose 70 cm to build a 3D view of the surroundings, backed by radar, cameras, and vehicle-to-vehicle communication.
