Rolls-Royce Boat Tail

The revival of Coachbuild, reimagining the pre-war boat-tail

The first project of Rolls-Royce's formally revived Coachbuild division, the Boat Tail reinterprets 1920s-30s boat-tail bodywork on the modern Architecture of Luxury aluminium platform. Just three were hand-built, each individually commissioned and personalised, most famously with a rear deck that opens to reveal a bespoke 'hosting suite' with champagne fridges and a parasol. Reported at roughly $28 million each, it was described as the most expensive new car in the world at launch.
