The hybrid supercar before hybrids were cool
A collaboration between Toyota and Italdesign Giugiaro, the Alessandro Volta was a carbon-fibre hybrid grand tourer named after the inventor of the battery. It borrowed the drivetrain philosophy of the Lexus RX 400h, mounting a 3.3-litre V6 behind the rear axle to feed electric motors on each axle rather than driving the wheels directly, giving all-wheel drive and a claimed 700 km range from a modest fuel tank.
