Toyota FT-86 Open

Testing the waters for a drop-top GT86

The FT-86 Open concept made its world debut at Geneva 2013 to gauge appetite for a convertible GT86. It kept the coupe's platform and high-revving naturally aspirated boxer engine while adding a multi-layer fabric roof with a glass rear screen, retaining the 2+2 seating with the roof stowed behind the fixed rear seats.

Key facts

  • Engine: 1,998 cc naturally aspirated boxer (~100 hp/litre)
  • Roof: Multi-layer fabric with glass rear screen
  • Seating: 2+2
  • Kerb weight: 1,257 kg (GT86 basis)
  • Length: 4,240 mm

Production

  • Status: Reached production
  • Open-top FT-86 study; the coupe reached production as the 86/GT86 while the convertible was not sold.
  • Revealed at 2013 Geneva Motor Show
