A fully enclosed, tilting electric three-wheeler for the city
Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the i-Road is an ultra-compact personal mobility vehicle that pairs a weatherproof, fully enclosed cabin with a leaning three-wheel layout. Toyota's newly developed Active Lean system automatically controls the body angle in corners using a lean-actuator motor, a gyro sensor and steering and speed data, so the driver never needs to put a foot down. At just 850 mm wide it occupies barely more road space than a motorcycle while offering a car-like environment with heating, lighting and audio.
