The plug-in Prius that launched a global demonstration fleet
Exhibited at the September 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Prius Plug-in Concept was based on the third-generation Prius (XW30) but fitted with a 5.2 kWh lithium-ion battery for a targeted electric-only cruising range of about 20 km. It could run at up to 100 km/h in EV mode with targeted CO2 emissions below 60 g/km. After its show debut, Toyota launched a global demonstration programme of some 600 pre-production test cars in late 2009 ahead of the production plug-in Prius.
