Toyota Setsuna

A wooden roadster built to outlive its owner

The Setsuna was a rolling meditation on the bond between people and their cars, its body formed from 86 handmade panels of Japanese cedar and birch joined without nails or screws using traditional okuriari and kusabi joinery. A 100-year meter tracked the passing of days and years; a small lead-acid battery-electric drivetrain provided gentle motion, emphasising craft over performance.
