A tech showcase mid-engine Corvette decades ahead of the C8
First shown at the 1986 Detroit Auto Show, the Corvette Indy packaged Chevrolet's most advanced technology into a carbon-fiber and Kevlar mid-engine body. It was powered by a mid-mounted twin-turbo, 32-valve 2.6-liter V8 developed with Lotus Engineering, and featured four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, active suspension and a rear-view camera with in-dash display. Three were built - one static show car and two runners. Its mid-engine vision would only reach production with the 2020 C8 Corvette.
