Chrysler Turbine Car (1963)
Concept car · 1963 · Combustion

A bronze turbine dream loaned to 200 American families.
The Chrysler Turbine Car paired an Italian Ghia body with Chrysler's fourth-generation A-831 gas-turbine engine, which produced 130 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque and could run on many fuels. Fifty-five cars were built (five prototypes and fifty for the public); from 1963 to 1966 Chrysler loaned them to 203 ordinary drivers who covered over a million miles. Most were later destroyed, making survivors extraordinarily rare.
