Quad-turbo V12 and the birth of New Edge
Unveiled at the 1995 Detroit Auto Show, the GT90 was the first Ford to wear the company's 'New Edge' design language. Built on a honeycomb aluminium monocoque with carbon-fibre body panels, it packed a bespoke 5.9-litre V12 (based on the Modular family) fed by four Garrett turbochargers. Exhaust heat was so extreme that Space-Shuttle-style ceramic tiles protected the bodywork. It shared its transmission and chassis basis with the Ford-owned Jaguar XJ220.
