A bold small car proving diesel-electric hybrids could be American
Shown at Detroit in 2006, the Reflex paired a small diesel driving the front axle with a rear electric motor for through-the-road AWD, backed by new-generation lithium-ion batteries. Ford claimed up to 65 mpg and 0-60 in 7 seconds. A tech showcase, it added solar-powered headlights, inflatable rear belts, and cabin sound-deadening made from recycled Nike shoe soles.
