David Hockney's x-ray view of the car painted onto an 850CSi.
British artist David Hockney painted an 850CSi so that the car appears to reveal its own interior - a stylised driver and dog inside, the intake ducts drawn as the driver breathing, and the tyre treads suggested on the bodywork. Hockney treated the surface as a window onto what lies beneath. Vivid greens, reds and blacks dominate.
