McLaren X-1 (2012)
Concept car · 2012 · Combustion

A one-off vision in black, built by McLaren Special Operations.
The X-1 was a bespoke, one-off commission built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) around the running gear of the MP4-12C and revealed at The Quail during 2012's Monterey Car Week. A private client who already owned a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and a 12C wanted something entirely his own; the project began in conversation with Ron Dennis before the 12C had even launched and took around two and a half years to complete. Every panel is bespoke carbon fibre, its jet-black, Rolls-Royce-inspired bodywork drawing on classic touring cars from a 1961 Facel Vega to a 1971 Citroen SM. It remains a singular, never-repeated MSO creation.
