Volkswagen Concept R

A mid-engined VR6 roadster that reimagined Volkswagen as a sports-car maker.

Unveiled at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show under designers Murat Gunak and Peter Schreyer, the Concept R was a two-seat, mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive roadster study. Its 3.2-litre V6 FSI produced 265 PS and 320 Nm, channelled through a six-speed DSG for a 5.3-second 0-100 km/h time and an electronically limited 250 km/h top speed. Compact at 4.16 m long and just 1.25 m tall, it broke new stylistic ground for the brand.
