Volkswagen W12 Nardo concept (2001)
Concept car · 2001 · Combustion

A mid-engined W12 supercar that shattered the 24-hour speed record.
The bright-orange W12 Nardo was the final evolution of Volkswagen's mid-engine W12 supercar studies, first sketched by Italdesign in 1997. Its 6.0-litre naturally aspirated W12 - effectively two narrow-angle VR6 units on a common crankshaft - produced 600 PS and drove the rear wheels through a sequential gearbox, wrapped in a 1,200 kg carbon-fibre body. In February 2002 a W12 coupe set a 24-hour world record at the Nardo Ring in Italy, covering 7,740.576 km at an average of 322.891 km/h.
