Volkswagen GX3 concept (2006)
Concept car · 2006 · Combustion

A car-motorcycle hybrid three-wheeler that nearly reached showrooms for $17,000.
Shown at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show as part of the internal 'Moonraker' project, the GX3 was a radical three-wheeled concept blending the thrill of a motorcycle with the stability of a car. It used the Lupo GTI's transverse 1.6-litre four-cylinder producing 125 PS, mounted in a steel spaceframe with fibreglass panels for a kerb weight of just over 570 kg. Priced near $17,000, it was ultimately shelved over product-liability and safety concerns tied to its motorcycle-like classification.
