Robert Rauschenberg BMW 635CSi Art Car #6 (1986), front view

Robert Rauschenberg's photo-collage 635CSi - a museum on wheels.

Robert Rauschenberg treated a 635CSi as a mobile canvas, applying photographic transfers of Old Master paintings (including works by Bronzino and Ingres), swampland reeds and antique furniture. He called it the first museum that could travel around on the streets. It was the first Art Car by an American artist to use photographic imagery.
