The V10 roadster that customers ordered before the show ended
Born from a meeting between Chrysler president Bob Lutz and design chief Tom Gale, the Viper RT/10 concept debuted at the 1989 Detroit Auto Show as a raw, minimalist V10 roadster with a singular focus on performance. Response was so overwhelming, with deposits pouring in before the show closed, that Chrysler approved production. Lamborghini, then owned by Chrysler, helped develop the aluminium-alloy V10. The production car went on sale in January 1992.
